a blurry iPhone picture of my “bed” for the last few nights. Yes, I’ve been sleeping in a chair (it’s a comfy one at least) because it has been too painful to lay down. I’m still recovering from pleurisy. I’m on the mend, but I also feel the beginnings of a sinus infection now. I debated just taking another day off from blogging, but I thought it would be kind of interesting to try and write about being sick. That’s not something I’ve really done before, because when I get sick I don’t feel much like writing.
A blog entry about being sick doesn’t seem like a great idea for entertaining my readers either, but bear with me for a minute on this one. The point of this little Memory Monday exercise is to record some of the things you do to feel better when you are sick. How do you cope? What products do you use for relief? Who steps in to help you out?
I’ve been going through boxes of these things and I’m grateful for the extra soft ones right now. I don’t think this is an area for skimping!
I’m liking these Ricola cough drops, especially the honey herb flavor (not pictured). They aren’t too mediciney tasting and as far as I can tell, they are one of the few cough drops out there that don’t have high fructose corn syrup in them. They also seem to last longer than other brands.
My iPhone did a nice job with this picture. This cough syrup has been pretty helpful for me. I’ve been using it for the past few days. I did switch to Tylenol Sinus yesterday because my sinus pain got pretty bad.
Other tricks & tools: an empty Kleenex box to use as a garbage can, an inhaler prescribed by my doctor, saline nose drops, hot water with honey & lemon juice, warm baths & showers, and a humidifier. I’ve been trying everything I could think of to get through this one as it has been a doozy! I’m usually pretty tough about being sick. I’ve had plenty of chronic pain over the years and I can usually just work through it. It takes a lot to knock me flat on my back, but this one has come pretty close.
My daughter has been helping out with some simple meals. Hubby has been bringing home takeout some nights. He did the grocery shopping on Saturday. He has had to miss some work to help take my daughter to a few appointments. They all went to a play without me because we couldn’t change our tickets. They went to church without me. They are managing pretty well, but it’s clear that our family needs me for everything to run the way we like it too.
I feel like I’m turning the corner toward recovery now. The pain in my lungs has gotten so much better in the past day. I’m hopeful that I can even sleep in a bed tonight instead of a chair.
If you’re sick today (a lot of people are at this time of year), take some pictures of the things that make you feel better. If you’re healthy today, say “hooray!” and jot down some memories of the health concerns you’ve faced in the past. It’s an interesting way to reflect on a Memory Monday!
