It’s a bit crazy to think about December in the month of March, but my hope is that if I spend just a little bit of time prepping for the holidays each month during the year, that December will go a lot smoother! That is the motivation behind my new project this year of using the 25th day of each month as a time to do just a few holiday prep tasks. I’m a little late on my self-imposed deadline this month, but I’m proud of myself for sticking with it, even when I felt like quitting.
In January I worked on my holiday card list + ideas. February was about holiday recipes. This month I’m going to look over the calendar for last November and December and also review my blog posts from those months. I’m going to make a note of activities we did that we want to repeat again this year and tentatively schedule them in on my calendar. I also want to remember to include the things we wished we would have done and figure out how to fit those in. I’ll probably look up some local events online and see if there is any information about the 2011 seasonal events we like to attend. Of course, it’s all still a long ways off, but I like the idea of putting a bit of thought into the season now.
The blog entry review will also help me with planning my calendar and just reflecting on how it all went last year. One of my favorite experiences of the 2010 holiday season has to be my backward countdown of the memories of all the Christmases of my life. I’m so glad I took the time to do that! There have been a few years when I’ve followed a special blog theme in December (you can find them here on my celebrations page) so I’m going to put on my thinking cap about what I want to do for the 2011 holiday blogging season.
Here’s my task list:
Yes, it might seem a bit crazy to think about all of this at the end of March, but I know I’ll be thanking myself for it in just a few months when it all hits us again!
If you want to join me on this quest, feel free to snag this word art to use on your own blog posts. I’d love it if you could link back to my blog so others know where to come each month on the 25th for each new list.
