Christmas 2008
We stayed home (here in Utah) for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning and we enjoyed our time together as a family. We sipped hot cocoa, watched movies, and opened presents. Pretty laid back. Nothing too out of the ordinary.
On the afternoon of Christmas day we went to my sister-in-law's house to open more presents and had homemade soup. My parents drove up from Albuquerque for a visit on the 28th of December and stayed through New Year's Day.

Other favorite memories from the 2008 holiday season:
I was at the grocery store on a Saturday afternoon and saw that Santa was there. I called Hubby and the kids on my cell phone and told them to hurry over to the store. They brought Santa hats with them and we got our picture taken. Not sure what my son is doing with his hand, we joked that he was making some sort of gang sign.
.
Earlier that same day we made a trip to IKEA to pick up some tables for Hubby’s home office. We got there before it opened so we were first in line. LOL!
.
Fresh wreath from Costco on my front door. Smelled wonderful!

I got a new laptop for Christmas. It’s had 2 new motherboards installed in it since that time, and a few major meltdowns. I guess it was a bit of a lemon, but I’m still using it even as I type this entry.

Christmas 2007
My Mom came to visit 10 days before Christmas. She had a lot of fun building gingerbread houses with my daughter and helping us get ready for Christmas.
My Dad and one of my brothers flew up (from Albuquerque) to join us all for a few days around Christmas. (My other brother was on a mission in California). This was the year of the “food poisoning incident” that has left us all a bit emotionally scarred. My in-laws came over on December 23rd to share a holiday buffet dinner with us. Everyone brought different dishes of food. Most people did not get sick, but my brother and I both got deathly ill a few hours after eating.. Seriously, I’m not sure I’ve ever had such a bad tummy as that. It was terrible! We happened to be the only ones who ate a lot of a certain dish so all we can figure is that it was some sort of food poisoning. I still have not eaten that certain dish again. Not sure I will ever be able to. I was supposed to be the good hostess to my family, but I couldn’t even function. So you would think my hubby could step in, right? Well he got up on the 24th of December and played racquetball with a friend. That’s fine, but he totally wrenched his back and he could hardly move for days. My poor parents! I think they lived off a few leftovers in the fridge for several days. I’m quite certain that they were VERY happy to head home after that holiday!
Somehow we made it through Christmas, but there are very few photographs to prove it. Here are some other favorite memories from the 2007 Christmas season:
A trip to Cactus and Tropicals with my Mom and my kids. It was so fun to see all the festive color flowers and decorations!
.
Seasonal treats in the three jars I always have sitting out on my kitchen counter. I change what I put in these for each holiday and I try to do something different each year.
.
Now that I’ve recapped those two years of Christmas, it makes a lot more sense to me why my parents waited until AFTER Christmas to come for a visit in 2007. LOL!

Want to play along? Have you ever been sick on Christmas? Was anyone else sick? How did it effect the holiday? What did you do to get through it? If you haven’t been sick over Christmas, chances are that someone in your life has. How did that go? Was it a minor illness, or a major problem? Were you able to celebrate despite the sickness?
