Welcome to “Great Gift Giving” week here on the Scrapbook Lady blog! If you’ve been around here before, you know that I love to gift gifts and one of my favorite things is to share all my ideas and finds with my readers. I have so many gift giving ideas to tell you about this year, I thought I would devote an entire theme week to the topic. So fun! If you are looking for the cute holiday presents graphic I found it at at Lettering Delights under the search terms “present time”. The font is LD Pookie (one of my favorites!) which is also from at Lettering Delights.
.
Today’s gift ideas focus on the photographer (pun intended ). Anyone who loves memories probably enjoys taking pictures. Some people define themselves as “photographers” and others say they are “scrapbookers”. I say it really doesn’t matter to me, I love it all – I love my camera, and I love creating pages with the photos I take. Some of these items are on my wish list this year, many of them are things I already own.
Photojojo is a great place to shop online if you love photography stuff. I’ve blogged about them before, but they’ve added even more goodies to their store since then. I’m asking Santa for any of these cool items:
SLR lens mug – so clever! I don’t even drink coffee, but I think this is totally cool. I think it would make a neat pencil cup in my studio.
.
Chalkboard speech bubble – all sorts of ideas for this one! I’m imagining my kids posing with this and having all sorts of things to “say”. lol!
.
Photoshop magnets. As a digital scrapbooker and a photographer, this is a slam-dunk for me!
.
Camera lens bracelets. Awesome. I don’t know if I’m supposed to post a link to these because it was just sent out to newsletter subscribers. How about you go subscribe to their newsletter? I bet they will be ok if you want to order one of these if you do that.
.
Santa already brought me these great gifts in the summer. Did you know Santa delivered in the summer?
Camera arm extender thingy – ok, it’s technically called a “Collapsible Camera Extender” – if you get one, then you can be in your pictures too.
.
Keep Calm and Snap On print. Love this! Now I just need to find a place to hang it up. Yes, I admit that it’s sitting on my closet shelf still, but I have good intentions to hang it up someday! I ordered the black and white version and I think it’s so fun!
.
Magnetic photo rope. I love being able to display random photo prints on a rope. I would actually like to have several of these in different colors if I only had the wall space. Maybe I need to ask Santa for more walls? Not a bad idea.
.
Tiny camera model. Will you think less of me if I tell you that I bought this mini camera just so I can have Lego guys pose with it? True story. It makes me smile every time I see it. Photojojo included a tiny dinosaur in my shipment so he can take pictures also.
.
Oldies, but goodies. Here are some items I’ve had for awhile now and still love.
Gorilla pods. I have both sizes (one for point and shoot & one for DSLR) and they are so handy to have!
.
Photojojo the book. This links to amazon because the price is a lot lower there. Not your typical photography project book. Very zany and creative, just like the blog!
.
Of course I have other photography related gift ideas as well. A digital camera is always a great gift (and an expensive one!), but I know that cameras can be a very personal choice for photographers. If you are going to buy a camera or a lens for someone, do your homework and find out what they like. Are they into Cannon or Nikon? DSLR? Or point and shoot? Here’s a link to a post about the cameras I use and love.
.
Another great idea is a camera bag. Again, this might be a matter of personal preference. I’ve struggled with finding one that I truly adore. I’ve got my eye on this fancy one though. I love that it can act as your purse and a high class (and feminine) camera bag. If Santa is in the mood to splurge a bit, I’d love this little number! The other styles are beautiful as well.
.
Crumpler also has some unique and practical camera bags.
.
This camera strap is the most amazing thing ever. Seriously, it has been one of my very best purchases! It was my “pick of the week” in episode 23 of the Paperclipping Digi Show podcast and I would recommend it for any photographer (man or woman). It’s a little hard to describe it , so you really need to click on the image below and watch the video.
I have the RS-7 strap + 1 joey to hold an extra battery and memory card. Also available at amazon if you would rather order there.
.
Adobe Lightroom is another fantastic gift for a photographer. Professional and amateurs can both get a lot out of this amazing program. I was a guest on episode 24 of the Paperclipping Digi Show podcast which was all about Lightroom so you should listen to that to get a better idea of all the cool things you can do in Lightroom. There is also a resource page on The Daily Digi with tons of links that will help you master Lightroom.
You can download a free trial of Lightroom at the Adobe website. If you decide to purchase it, the program is less expensive on amazon.
.
If you do give Lightroom as a gift, or you know someone who already has it, this book is the best one I’ve seen so far. I just purchased it for myself and it’s fantastic! It was my “pick of the week” for episode 24 of the Paperclipping Digi Show podcast.
The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers
.
I’m a big Scott Kelby fan so I also recommend these 3 books.
I love all 3 of these books! You can also buy them as a set.
.
A photographer can never have too many memory cards, extra batteries, or usb drives (for sharing photos). Those are all great items to put into a themed gift basket (or bag) for the photographer on your list. Add some photography books, magazines, and a few fun items for a really spectacular gift.
Of course gift certificates are always appreciated. B & H photo is a very popular site with photographers. Amazon offers gift cards to allow them to pick up equipment or books. I also think a gift membership to Flickr is a fabulous idea!
.
If you are looking for some fun gift ideas for kids (or kids at heart) be sure to check out our Toy blog this week. We are blogging about great giving ideas there as well.
