We went on a quick trip this weekend to Cedar City, Utah. My hubby had some meetings there, so we decided to tag along. (One of the benefits of online schooling!) We stayed in a moderately priced hotel, the same one we’ve stayed in for years. This time we noticed a few differences. It didn’t seem as clean. The shower curtain rod was crooked so you had to shower with the curtain mostly open, and the indoor pool was like an ice cube. All minor things, but still a bit of an annoyance when you are paying to stay somewhere. We thought about switching hotels, but it was only a 2 night trip so we weren’t sure it was worth the bother. Later that night, we figured out that they had discontinued the free wireless internet that had always been offered there before. Well, we could live with the other stuff, but could not accept that they took away the internet!
Before you just think I’m an internet “snob” (which I totally am! lol!), please realize that we did have to do our school lessons online. So, the next day we packed up and moved to another hotel. Yep, for one night. We couldn’t believe the hotel was going backward in their service. I guess they were trying to save money? Interesting since the price for our room was higher than when we stayed there a few months ago. Higher prices and lower quality – not what we were looking for.
Turns out the hotel up the street (same type of moderate-priced hotel) had a bigger room, free wi-fi, The Disney Channel (happy kids!), a warmer pool, and a working shower curtain for $25 LESS per night.
Sometimes it is worth switching something if it isn’t working. I remember my parents switching hotel rooms a few times when I was growing up. I never understood what the big deal was. Now that I’m the one on the paying end, I totally see their point. It’s hard to pay for something that is substandard in quality.
Have you ever switched hotel rooms? Or changed your mind on a purchase that was not up to quality standards? Are you afraid to speak up in these situations? (I usually am) Do you have any pictures to go with these memories?
Can you believe I didn’t take any pictures of our experience?! At least I have this blog entry to document our weekend. Some memories are worth writing about. Memory Monday is the perfect time to do just that.
