There might be some newcomers here for the roundup post after I mentioned it on the Paperclipping Digi Show podcast. Welcome to my blog and to the roundups!
It feels so good to get my roundup done, it's a great way to recap the past month and it helps me feel ready to face the new month of memories to come! Can you believe I’ve been doing these monthly “roundups” since January of 2006?
Here's what my August of 2010 was all about:
.
What books and/or magazines did I read this month?
I actually did quite a bit of reading this month while on vacation. I read Artful Blogging, which is an amazing publication, and several Better Homes and Gardens back issues. I was so excited to read a book just for pleasure so I picked up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo since everyone seems to be reading it lately. Total disappointment for me! I don’t say that lightly – I hate to give a book a bad review, and I rarely ever do - but this one was gross. I really don’t need to read about sickos. I had hoped to find a new series to enjoy (there are 3 books) but from what I can tell from the excerpt, the 2nd book is just more of the same. Wish I had some brain bleach to get rid of what I read. I’m honestly a little surprised that people love this book so much. Am I just old fashioned? I love a good thriller, but I really don’t like such graphic and disturbing detail. I’m embarrassed that I kept reading it all the way to the end.
.
What movies, television shows, plays, etc. did I watch this month?
We watched several movies while we were on vacation: Karate Kid (the new one – see my comments here), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (very bizarre, but sort of funny), Confessions of a Shopaholic (formulaic, but cute- a good “chick flick”), and Blind Side (for about the 3rd time – love it!)
.
What fun things did I do with my family and/or friends?
A 9 day vacation was the big event for us this month! We spent 2 days in Seattle, Washington and then went on a 7 day cruise to Alaska. Our ports included: Seattle Washington, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Ketchikan, (all in Alaska) and Victoria British Columbia (Canada). We saw a comedian, a magician, went on a train ride, saw totem poles and glaciers, and ate way too much!
.
What gifts did I give and/or receive?
No birthdays for us in August. We did get 3 wedding invitations so we gave gifts to all of the couples from their wedding registries.
.
What special or unusual purchases did I make?
Souvenirs on our trip.
.
What illnesses or health concerns did I have?
The finger thing seems to be settling in to what it is going to be. I went to the hand doctor and he said there is nothing else he can do for me. I went to several months of physical therapy and that helped it along to a certain point. It looks like it might never bend completely or have full strength again. The good news is that now it is livable. I can get through the day without Advil most of the time and I can basically function. I have a little bit of a hard time cutting steak, but I can do just about anything else I need to. So I guess I’m good with that.
.
What were my accomplishments this month?
It was a busy month for the first half of August and a lazy one for the second half. I had to get all my work done before we left town because of limited (and expensive!) internet access on the cruise. I got almost everything done that I wanted to though, and we even came back and started right into homeschool.

Anything else noteworthy to include
Here are the layouts I completed in August. Each image is linked to the original blog post from either my own blog here, or The Daily Digi if you want to see credits or details for each creation.
What a month!
Feel free to snag this button for your own roundup. It would also be great if you could link back to my blog so others know where to find the prompts.
