Another 2 page spread for my “Places I’ve Been” album. This is one of our favorite places to go! My husband grew up on Shakespeare as his parents took him to the Festival every year from the time he was 11 or 12 until our son was about 2 years old. We missed several years while our kids were young, but we have picked the habit back up now. One of these days we need to figure out exactly how many seasons my husband has attended the Festival.
You are probably thinking that some little Festival in Cedar City, Utah can’t be all that great. Wrong! It is an amazing organization and the Festival has even won a Tony Award for outstanding regional theater! If you ever get a chance to travel to Southern Utah in the summer or fall months, it is a MUST see.
If you go to the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, Utah:
- Check the calendar to see what plays are running. Try to see as many as you can. Even if you don’t like Shakespeare, try a comedy. There are also many other wonderful plays. My favorite actor is Brian Vaughn. He is great in everything! Try to see at least one play in each theater. Nothing like Shakespeare under the stars in the open air Adams theater. The indoor Randall theater is beautiful.
- Buy a tart every time you get a chance. They are yummy and a festival tradition! Actors dressed up in period clothing will sell them to you and they speak in British accents. My favorite is the cream cheese, but lemon or raspberry are also in the running. My son loves the apple tarts. You will also find plenty of other treats but the tarts are a MUST!
- Go to the lectures, back stage tours, and the Greenshow. The Festival is a multi-faceted experience.
- Visit one of the nearby National Parks to see some amazing scenery!
