I’m generally not a big fan of movie remakes. I can’t help but compare the new version to the original. Sometimes, I’m pleasantly surprised by a well done remake like this one.
Sure, it was a bit predictable, but I really liked the characters and the overall message. Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan were great. There were bits of homage to the original, but it also stood up as it’s own story.
Of course the original is a bit predictable as well, but it’s still a classic. Mr. Miyagi is so memorable.

What happens when you see the remade version first? Here’s a list of several movies that some consider to be better than the originals. I enjoyed Heaven Can Wait, Father of the Bride, Little Shop of Horrors (weird and campy!), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and even True Lies. I have never seen the original versions of any of these films though. I wonder if I would be tempted to compare them to the remakes and find them falling short?
What movies have you seen that have been remade? Do you like the original or the remake better? Why? Do you think it is influenced which one you see first?
All fun things to think about on a Memory Monday.
