You may recall that I was unable to participate in Ali’s Week in the Life challenge back in April. I decided to schedule it for this week in May (10-16) instead because I knew I wouldn’t get it done unless I put it on the calendar and committed to it. I’m still not back to 100% yet so I thought about backing out, but I decided that it’s all good. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just representative of what our lives are like right now. I want this project to be authentic, so that might as well include what I’m going through with my finger recovery.
I have to admit that I’m kind of glad I waited, since now I have the benefit of seeing how the project came together for Ali. Her completed album is SO inspiring! She made me feel like “I can do this” and so I’m going to give it a go.
Since I schedule my posts to go live each morning at 6 a.m. mountain time, I will be sharing the previous day’s events with each blog entry. I’m not going to worry about including every thing in each day’s post because I think that might be too long and boring to read through. I will be sure to share as much as I can and also post about my process and the finished project as it comes together.
I’ve never done this before. It seems a bit daunting, especially when I look at all that is on our calendar this week. I believe this is a very worthwhile project though, and I know it will be a treasure to me and my family for many years to come. I want to do this. Here’s my plan of attack:
- PHOTOS + WORDS = ENOUGH
I’m keeping this very simple. I’m focusing on capturing our life this week in photos and words. I will use my cameras, my keyboard, handwritten notes, and misc. memorabilia that comes my way during the week. I have numerous ways to document everyday life:
- Sony Cybershot camera
- Nikon D40 camera
- tripods and gorillapods to set cameras on
- iphone camera
- webcam in my DELL laptop
- voice recorder on my iphone
- pens, pencils, paper, notebooks
- Microsoft Word
- Evernote and several iphone apps
- Outlook calendar
- emails
- Typepad blog
- Facebook posts
- Twitter tweets
- exercise record from Personal Trainer Walking DS
I need to be creative with getting myself in the photos by using tripods and/or handing off the camera to someone else.
- SUPPLIES
I’m not going to worry much about scrapbooking products. I will use some digital papers, but very few embellishments. I plan to use some of Ali’s digital items because I figure she is a master at this (having done it for a few years now) so I’m taking advantage of her knowledge and using the products she has made for this project.
Fonts I will use - Avenir Book, Garamond, Courier New, Ali’s font
I will be scrapping in 12x12 format but printing all my pages in 8x8 size. I plan to print my pages using scrapbookpictures.com since I’ve always had good luck with them. I love that I don’t have to print my pictures separately and then put them on pages, it’s all done at once since I’m a digital scrapbooker. I will be using one of my favorite WeRMemoryKeepers albums and I hope to add to it each year when I do this project. (How’s that for optimistic?)
- INSPIRATION
I will need inspiration to keep me on track this week! I’ve already mentioned how much I loved Ali’s completed album, but I’m going to include it again here in this list of resources.
If you missed out on Ali’s challenge last month and you need a WEEK IN THE LIFE buddy to keep you motivated, feel free to play along with me! If you have already completed your own project, I’d love to know what worked for you so please leave a comment if you want to share.
