I did a little Q&A post a few weeks ago and it was so fun to read the questions in the comments field. I've been trying to reply to the questions in the comments field but I realize not everyone will see them there. I've also received some great questions via email and in the comment section of other posts. Made me realize that I need a dedicated Question and Answer page so this will be the place for that. I will add to it over time and I will link to it on the sidebar with this button - gotta have a button for everything! :)
Digital Scrapbooking Questions:
- How do you digital scrapbook? Where do I start? What do I need? There are plenty of questions related to how to do this thing called digiscrapping. I try to answer as many of them as possible in my I Love Digiscrapping post. If there is something I missed there, just let me know!
- How do you install fonts? Dafont.com has some good basic information on this. I use Windows so I just copy the font icon from my unzipped file then I open up the fonts folder in my control panel (classic view) and paste it right in the font file folder. The font installs itself. Notice the name of the font as you do this so you know what to look for. Also note that if you install a font while you have a program like Word or Photoshop open, you might need to close and reopen that program before the font shows up there.
- Can you use layered templates in Digital Image Pro? Layered templates only work in photoshop programs. That is the main reason I finally broke down and learned Photoshop Elements. I also love Digital Image Pro! :) Some template designers offer .png versions of templates and you can use those in DIP.
- What program do you use for digital scrapbooking? I started on Microsoft Digital Image Pro, but it is no longer being made and there are limitations on shadowing and layers (see above). I switched to Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 a few years ago and I'm currently running PSE 8 and loving it!
- What size font do you use for journaling? I generally use a 14 pt. for my journaling, depending on the look of the font and how much space I want my journaling to take up. I have gone as small as 10 but only when the font runs a little on the large side.
- Where do you print your layouts? I almost always use scrapbookpictures.com and they often have sales. I've also used Costco and been happy with the results.
- How do you organize your digital supplies? I use a folder system that I blogged about here.
- How do you organize your digital photos? This is my one of my weakest areas! I do keep folders for each month of photos and then I put those into folders by year. I have photos scattered all over the place though - both in real life and on my hard drive. I'm working on a system for this and I will keep you posted. The best tool I have right now is flickr because I tag and organize all the photos I upload there.
- How do you go about scrapping a page? Read about my Power-Scrapping technique in this guest post at The Daily Digi. I also go over my creative process in this blog post.
General Scrapbooking Questions:
- Do you scrap in order? Generally the answer is no. I would get frustrated if I tried to do this and I think I would get bored only working on a certain time period for a long time. I love Janet's explanation of this on The Daily Digi. The only time I do scrap in order is if I'm working on a specific project like a mini-album. I have an article today on The Daily Digi about prepping pages ahead of time for a specific theme album when planning an album.
- What tips do you have for becoming a better scrapbooker? Whether you are digi or traditional, I think you will find my Scrapbooking Secrets series helpful.
Other Questions:
- How do you make those buttons on your blog? I make my own buttons using graphics and fonts and then I use the Pieces of Flair application on facebook to finish them off. There are digital scrapbooking products to make buttons like this but I haven't found one I like as much. Please note that the facebook buttons are web quality only and will not be suitable for printing.
- I would like to know more about you: You can find out more about me on my welcome page.
- How long have you been blogging? Since October of 2005
Feel free to leave me a comment if you have any other questions you would like me to answer!
