Today is the first day of school for us. I say "us" because I am the teacher. We use an online school program through k12.com which means that we are homeschoolers, but we also follow a regular school curriculum and have classes, teacher meetings, and even assemblies. The difference is that everything is done online. It is nice because I don't have to put together the curriculum and there are online teachers who do the grading. It is also wonderful for us because I can work one on one with each of my kids and help them learn in the best way possible for them. This is especially helpful because my son has autism and my daughter has ADHD.
They are both very smart kids and I am happy to report that this has been a wonderful solution for our family. I understand that homeschool is not for everyone. I never imagined that it would be the path my life would take, but I'm so glad that we have found a program that is such a perfect fit for our family.
I thought it might be fun to post some updated pictures of our homeschool room. This room also serves as my home office, scrapbook room, sewing room, art studio, and general creative space. I've worked hard to get this room super organized and I'm so happy with how functional this space is.
The best way to view these photos is to go to this photoset I've created on flickr that will take you through the whole room. Each individual picture has "notes" which means that if you mouse over the photos on flickr, you will be able to find out all the details about what is in the picture.
Here's our room. You will find more photos here.
