My blog re-design is well underway now and I'm happy with how it is turning out. I still have a few more buttons and features to add but I thought it would be helpful to post a little how-to intro to the blog. Plus, if you have been reading in a rss feed you might have missed the whole transition! I will update this post as I add more blog features.
Here's a screen shot of
- I love a clean white background on blogs and I also designed mine with a fluid center which means it should fill up your whole screen. I don't like blogs that have big sidebars of color or design and just a small space in the middle for content. They might look fine on a small or standard monitor, but on a widescreen laptop they just look sort of strange. With a fluid center column the page will fit a standard or wide monitor because it stretches to fill your whole screen.
- I redesigned my header to include the newer version of my logo. I also added a catchphrase; "saving lives one page at a time" because I feel like it really sums up what scrapbooking/memory keeping is all about. You can click on the header anytime to re-orient the blog to the current date.
- The flair buttons down the side are not just for looks (although I think they are fun!) Each button will take you to an important link or area of content on my blog. They are sort of like a visual table of contents. I haven't finished my bio as of this writing so the only button that doesn't take you anywhere yet is the one with my logo on it. That will be fixed soon!
- I'm going to use some of these flair buttons at the bottom of posts that they relate to as a quick and visual way to add links. I will also be using some fun buttons that won't be part of my main blog page to take you to other fun ideas and places on the web. So when you see a button - click it!
Here's a listing of each button (they are all click-able) and a short description of what's behind it:
