I’m really late on getting my August and September roundups done – but better late than never!
Here’s August in a nutshell:
What books and/or magazines did I read this month?
I read Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Myer (the final book in the Twilight Series) and I have to say I was disappointed in it. I’ve loved the series but this book was a little on the gory side and the story just didn’t click for me like the other ones.
I also read The Educated Child by William Bennett which I found very interesting.
What movies and/or tv shows did I watch this month?
We watched a lot of the Summer Olympics. We watched almost every minute of the opening and closing ceremonies and a whole bunch of Michael Phelps. We also caught several other events. We really enjoyed the Olympics and we thought China did such a good job as the host country.
My kids and I had a Disney movie countdown calendar to help us get ready for our Disneyworld trip. We watched several Disney movies together such as Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, Hercules, The Rescuers, All 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Great Mouse Detective. Yes, we watched a lot of movies!
What special days did I celebrate and how?
Hubby’s Grandmother’s 84th birthday. We had a family reunion type of birthday party for her.
What gifts did I give and/or receive?
Some scrapbook layouts to Hubby’s Grandmother. She looks at the scrapbook album I made her almost every day and she really appreciates the layouts. Such a sweet lady!
What illnesses or health concerns did I have?
Lots of abdominal pain and a lot of digestive tract problems. I got so sick at the end of the month that I missed doing my roundup for the first time since I started it in January of 2006.
What fun things did I do with my friends and/or family?
Went to a baby shower, a family reunion, and Mama Mia the movie. I took my kids to an aquarium and we went out to dinner a few times.
What new foods, recipes or restaurants did I try this month?
My daughter took a cooking class so we got to try several of her new recipes. She made French waffles, Chinese Moon Cakes, Russian Tea Cakes and Spanish Empanadas. Yummy!
What special or unusual purchases did I make?
Paid to have our living room painted. Bought some accessories for our living room. Started paying A LOT of money to fill our gas tanks as Utah had the 3rd highest priced gasoline in the United States. (Behind Alaska and Hawaii) I replaced my son’s Nintendo DS because his broke. He had it for years and it is one of his most prized possessions so he was very grateful that I bought him a new one. We also bought some wireless networking stuff to get the kids all hooked up for homeschool.
What were this month's disappointments?
Being in pain and getting really sick.
What were my accomplishments this month?
I started a regular walking program and even went on a 5 mile walk with my kids and hubby. I did a few scrapbook layouts and also designed some new products. The biggest accomplishment of the month was getting started on homeschooling both of my kids using the k12.com program. We started in a new virtual academy and it was a big adjustment to learn all their requirements and to adapt to a high school curriculum for my son.
