I'm all done with my roundup now and it sure feels good! Did you know that I have been doing roundups for 24 months straight?! I haven't missed a month since I started this tradition at the beginning of 2006. I can't tell you what a valuable tool this has been not only for scrapbooking, but for reflecting on my life in general. I hope you will make doing monthly roundups a goal for 2008 and join in on the fun!
I'm also working on an end of year recap for 2007 so I will post that later on today.
Here's what my December was like:
What books and/or magazines did I read this month?
I didn’t do a whole lot of reading in December but I did browse through a lot of cookbooks and Christmas magazines. Does that count for anything?
What movies and/or tv shows did I watch this month?
Watched Elf and Christmas Vacation (2 of my favorite silly holiday movies). Also watched some musicals with my kids. More 3rd Rock from the Sun (so funny!) and Hubby and I finally finished the series of Alias. We really liked it!
We have also been watching The Blue Planet (My parents gave this to my kids for Christmas) and it is just amazing! We watched the one about the deep last night and we all just kept saying “Wow!” I saw creatures that I have never even imagined before. I totally recommend this DVD set and I am going to have to buy the Planet Earth series next because I love watching these types of stunning and educational shows.
What special days did I celebrate and how?
Christmas! That was a big one. My family came to visit so I had a house full of company. I also hosted a dinner for them and for my in-laws (yep, all together!) which was fun. However, my brother and I got extremely sick from something at the party and… well, you really don’t want to know the details. LOL! But in general, we had a very nice Christmas. I even have a layout to share!
Quick page by Weeds and Wildflowers. That is my Mom decorating gingerbread houses with my daughter. A simple layout without a lot of journaling but it is fun to just see the scenes of the season.
For New Year’s Eve, we just hung out around here (just the four of us) and had fondue to eat. Cheese fondue and cut up bread which was yummy for me, but not so much for anyone else. Then we had Chocolate fondue with fresh fruits for dessert. We all loved the fruit and my daughter and I thought the chocolate fondue was wonderful. I guess that is a girl thing.
What gifts did I give and/or receive?
Good month for gifts. We gave out wrapping paper to our neighbors (which was a big hit) and my daughter made cute little cookie boxes. I made scrapbook layouts for our parents and also some magnets from my children’s artwork and some of my scrapbook pages. We gave our kids various board games, dvds, and books. I feel like we did a pretty good job of keeping Christmas reasonable but fun for them.
We gave our son the game of Risk which is sort of special for us. When we were first married we would get together with another couple and play this on Friday nights. The games would go on for hours. So we let Alex take us on and he beat us both. Total world domination for him! This made him very happy.
And don’t you think every house needs one of these?
it was a gift for my son but I think Hubby was more excited about it. :)
My favorite gifts were:
A collection of lotions and soaps from my kids
A 3 month subscription to Netflix – can’t wait to use that one.
Money and gift certificates – the gift that ALWAYS fits!
A handmade quilt from my Sister-in-law (see yesterday’s photo)
DVD burner from Hubby
What illnesses or health concerns did I have?
I had 2 more cysts removed from my head. This is so NOT cool that I keep growing these things. I had 3 huge golfball sized cysts removed from my skull in November of 2005 and that was just awful. I lost a lot of hair that will never grow back because of the scar tissue. When I found 2 more smaller cysts recently I was really worried I would have to have surgery again. Since they were still small I was able to get them removed in a doctor’s office instead of the hospital and it was all very minor with no more hair loss. If anyone wants to read about this freak of nature kind of stuff than feel free to go to http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic328.htm
I got bronchitis and had to take antibiotics. I sort of think I never really got rid of it fully in November and I possibly had a bit of a rebound infection. To top it all off I got what I’m pretty sure was food poisoning which was pretty awful. Then I had to keep taking antibiotics with a sick tummy and a reduced appetite which made me continually sick. I have a very sensitive stomach when it comes to medicine. Not really my best month for health. The good news is that I think I lost all of the holiday weight I gained in the first 3 weeks of December. Now I just have to work on all the weight I have gained over the past 15 Christmases! LOL!
What fun things did I do with my friends and/or family?
Went to Cactus and Tropicals, did lots of shopping, watching shows, visiting, playing games. A lot of nice time to hang out with family.
What new foods, recipes or restaurants did I try this month?
We went out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants (Zinn Bistro) and I had delicious chicken crepes and an amazing Banana Cream Pie for dessert. We found a new restaurant called Zupas which is so good! My favorite menu items are the Vermont Maple Blueberry Salad and the Wisconsin Cauliflower Cheese Soup – yum!
What special or unusual purchases did I make?
A ton of groceries and a few holiday presents. I had finished most of my Christmas shopping in November though so that was nice.
What were this month's disappointments?
Getting sick multiple times, feeling worn out, losing my creative mojo.
What were my accomplishments this month?
Making it through the month! Provided a nice Christmas for my family. I also created 14 digital scrapbook layouts.
